The most accurate predictors of student achievement in school are not family income or social status, but the extent to which the family creates a home environment that encourages learning, communicates high yet reasonable expectations for the child’s achievement, and becomes involved in the child’s education at school.

For over 125 years the National PTA (Parent Teacher Association) has worked as an advocate for children and schools at the local, state, and national levels. Harrison Park School has had a local PTA unit since its construction in 1950. Today it is home to one of the most culturally diverse student populations in the Portland Public School District, with over 25 languages (and counting!) spoken by students and their families. 

PTA is a great way to make a difference in the lives of students and teachers while meeting new people and making new friends. Come be a part of making Harrison Park a vibrant, fun community!  

Harrison Park’s PTA, a 501c3 non-profit, values diversity and inclusion and aligns its work with Oregon PTA’s Mission & Values. All parents and community members are welcome. We value and need your input and help.

National PTA was chartered in New York in 1897. The first PTA chapter in Oregon was chartered in 1905. Harrison Park PTA was founded when Harrison Park School was built in 1950.
